It’s official – Spring has sprung. The flowers are blooming, the trees are greener and the birds are singing in the trees. With all this new life blossoming around us, we want to help give your skin a bit of a Spring clean, brushing off it’s winter coat and unveiling its fresher, younger looking self.

Our key ingredient for that baby soft, radiant skin free of blemishes, dry patches, and discolouration? Acids. We know they sound scary, but trust us, they’re key to getting that picture perfect skin you’ve always dreamed of.

We’ve already spoken about two of our favourite chemical exfoliants, Glycolic acid and Salicylic Acid, if you’ve not caught up on them yet make sure you give them a read to learn all about what they do and which one suits your skin needs best.

Today we’re talking about a real game changer in skin hydration – Hyaluronic acid. With super powers like the ability to hold 1000 times its own weight in water, it’s a mighty little product that really packs a hydrating punch.

Naturally existing in the skin, Hyaluronic acid is our very own hydrating powerhouse. It’s what keeps your skin plump, firm and moisturised. It smooths and hydrates the surface of the skin so it looks soft and glowing and, due to its cell-plumping action, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – talk about ticking all the boxes!

As we age, our skin’s ability to produce its own Hyaluronic acid diminishes, which leads to dry skin, fine lines and less glow. Couple that with environmental aggressors sapping our hyaluronic acid reserves, and you find yourself saying #nofilter less and less. But we can always give nature a helping hand…

The best way to do this is to get yourself a hyaluronic acid serum. The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum is a great place to start. It’s a lightweight serum that easily absorbs into the skin leaving no sticky residue – just serious hydration. It contains three types of hyaluronic acid (at different molecular sizes so it gets to different levels of the epidermis) to plump and hydrate, and vitamin B5 to heal damaged skin. It helps the skin retain moisture by boosting its lipid barrier strength, so you’ll see your skin’s health improving over time. Apply AM and PM to start reaping the HA benefits!

After your serum, you’ll want to apply a hyaluronic acid cream to really seal the deal. The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturising Factors + HA is a non-greasy moisturiser that nourishes and protects your skin for a smooth, supple complexion.

If you need a richer cream with more hardcore anti-aging benefits, try Decleor’s Prolagene Lift & Firm Day Cream – it targets dry, mature skin in need of firmness, moisture and radiance. Alongside hyaluronic acid for hydration and wrinkle smoothing, it contains L-Proline Complex to encourage collagen renewal and light-reflecting particles to add brightness.

There you have it, hydrated, soft and glowing skin just a serum and cream away. For smooth, flawless and plump skin, use after Glycolic or Salicylic acid as part of your nightly skincare routine and again in the morning before applying your makeup for a moisture rich, radiant base.

Hyaluronic acid, we salute you.
