For the first time on the Justmylook blog we welcome a guest post! UTan & Tone is a cult brand offering a premium range of tanning products that have taken the beauty world by storm. We hear from founder Rebecca Mone & her thoughts.
In the 1920s a nurse was treating a man with diabetes when DHA (the active in self-tan that changes your skin colour) spilt when connecting his drip, resulting in the ‘Eureka’ moment for those of us not blessed with olive skin… Self-tan was created!
It’s only been within the last decade that we’re gaining some trust with the results of faking it for the first time. So, we’re not only lucky to have faux tan by faux pas, but we’ve come so far in terms of scientific development, and now we’re spoiled for choice with advanced self-tanning formulas that won’t leave you looking like you’ve spent a weekend floating in a pool of Sunny D.
From odourless DHA, to unique blends of natural skin-care ingredients such as Coconut Extract and Wild Indigo Root, we can now sit next to people without smelling of burnt biscuits, put on facial tans without tightening and dryness, and generally pretend that we don’t go from pink to red to see-through when out in the sun (I’m Scottish).
Because of this, I must admit that I do have a favourite self-tanning brand and that’s UTan and Tone. Who doesn’t want to tone up and flush out toxins from the skin at the same time as looking Mediterranean? Before I go any further, I will admit that I do actually own the brand – I know what you’re thinking… ‘oh great, she’s obviously biased’ – but, working with chemists who’ve worked on high-end formulations for the likes of La Prairie, using only the best organic odourless DHA and 14.5% tanning actives in our super strength Turbo Lotion (The industry standard is between 6-8%), I am confident that when using UTan and Tone, you will understand why!
If I was to choose one product from the range as my ‘desert island’ must have, it would definitely be the new Coconut Tanning Water. You may have seen it already on Instagram being spritzed over the top of various makeup tutorials by vloggers as well as the main man himself, Mario Dedivanovic (only Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist!). If this is the first time you’ve ever heard of such a thing, you might be thinking… ‘I thought water removes tan?!’ well the answer is no, it actually does the opposite in this case.
As everyone is still is going nuts over coconut extract for its fantastic hydrating properties, I wanted to formulate something that not only smells incredible and gives you a natural glow, but hydrates your face in the way that Vita Coco apparently hydrates your body ‘better than water’. It takes me back to the days of Evian water spray when I was young, free and all I had to worry about was what I was having for dinner that night. So, other than the fact it’s enjoyable and nostalgic to use, it gives you a super easy and believable facial tan, which is pretty amazing.
You can spritz it over the top of makeup to add moisture and set, over your favourite moisturiser or serum at night, or whenever you want throughout the day. The colour will develop over 4-6 hours and there is no need to wash your hands! Want to build it up the colour? Just keep spraying, it’s that simple.
It’s best to spray in a zig zag motion from side to side and let the infusion of vitamin E, real coconut extracts and cooling Aloe (as we would say in Glasgow) ‘sort you right out’!
