There’s millions of makeup tips out there on the internet but you know what? Not all of them are true! There are lots of advice out there that is simply untrue which is why we present to you 8 of the biggest makeup myths:
Makeup Myth 1 – Not everyone suits red lipstick
This is one of the most common makeup myths and one that seems to grow stronger every year. The fact is though that there is no truth in it whatsoever. Red lipstick suits everyone, but not every shade of red lipstick does. It’s common sense really and just a question of finding the right shade for you.
Makeup Myth 2 – You can use mascara till it dries up
This is a big myth and one that is actually quite dangerous. You should only use mascara for three months (or less if the manufacturer says so). Why? Because over time it can become a breeding ground for bacteria and is one of the most common causes of eye infections.
Makeup Myth 3 – You don’t need to remove makeup before going to bed
Sleep is great for the skin and your overall health and it lets your skin regenerate overnight. However, if you leave your makeup on overnight, it can clog your pores and can lead to your skin becoming dry and dehydrated.
Makeup Myth 4 – You don’t need to wash makeup brushes if only you use them
Yes, it maybe only you that use them but they come into contact with a host of other surfaces that could have a whole host of bacteria on them. Not only can this bacteria be passed on to you, not washing your brushes severely diminishes their longevity.
Makeup Myth 5 – Cosmetic products last forever
Cosmetic products may look like they can last forever and many seem like they do but all cosmetic products have an expiration date and you should pay heed to these carefully as they won’t be at their best after this. They may even go off before this if you do not store them in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Makeup Myth 6 – Foundation is bad for your skin
Maybe many years ago using foundation every day was not the best idea for your skin. But today, foundation contains lots of useful skincare ingredients, SPF sun protection and other components that protect the skin from adverse increments. Use the right foundation for your skin type and your skin will get big benefits.
Makeup Myth 7 – Your eyebrows should be 2 tones darker than the colour of your hair
This is partially true. If you have light hair, this is a good rule to follow and will look great. But if you have dark hair, you should really avoid having eyebrows that are too dark as it can have the effect of making the face look rather rugged which isn’t the best look for most women.
Makeup Myth 8 – Use dark eyeliner to make your eyes look bigger
There’s no doubt that dark eyeliner when done in a smokey eyes style can make the eyes look more expressive, but thick wings can create a deep-set effect and that as a result makes your eyes look smaller. If you really want to make your eyes look bigger, apply light eyeshadows and eyeliner to the inner eyelid. You will really see a difference!
