Brushing your hair is easy isn’t it? Well it is, but are you doing it right? Take a look at our 5 hair brushing tips and by following them you’ll find that your hair will not only look cleaner and more healthy, it will suffer less damage too and you won’t have to spend as long brushing it.
Always Brush When Dry
Do you always brush your hair when just out of the shower whilst it is wet? When your hair is wet the hair fibres are filled with moisture which causes them to stretch. This causes the strands to be weaker and makes breakages much more common. To ensure that this doesn’t happen and you damage your hair, allow your hair to fully dry before detangling it and brushing it.
Use a Detangling Brush
If you’re detangling your hair with a normal paddle brush then you’re not doing it in the most effective or efficient way. Get yourself a proper detangling brush and you will find that detangling your hair is much easier and a much less painful experience. You may wish to use a specialist detangling product too if you still find it difficult to detangle your hair properly.
Don’t Brush Too Much
Have you ever seen those old movies where the glamorous female lead spends ages brushing her hair in front of the mirror, almost counting every stroke? Whilst brushing your hair is a good thing for its health, brushing your hair too much is not a good thing and can actually damage your hair and cause more breakages. Instead of the length of time you brush your hair or the number of strikes, focus on quality instead. Eliminate the knots and you’re done.
Use a Clean Brush
Just as like it is best practice that you should wash your makeup brushes, you should also wash your hair brush at least once a week. Are you? The bristles in your brush easily get clogged up with stray hairs as well as excess product and this severely hampers the effectiveness of your brush as well as meaning you are applying old and dirty product to your hair. The cleaner you keep your brush, the cleaner your hair will be and it will also be healthier.
To wash your brush properly, first remove any hair that has been caught up within it and then rinse it under warm water and then apply a little shampoo, working it into the bristles. Then rinse it and towel dry. It will look and feel as good as new!

It goes without saying that you won’t be doing your hair any favours if you use a poor quality brush.
