Are you like most women and really hate having to remove your makeup before you go to bed? It’s vitally important that you do though because it is perhaps the most important part of your skincare routine. By removing your makeup before you hit the sheets you are giving your skin a good rest and a chance to recuperate and renew. Check out some of our makeup removal tips below.
With everyone of our tips, it’s vital that you are through in your application of it. You don’t have to spend ages taking off your makeup, but to do it properly does take a little time. The good news is that you shouldn’t take you longer to remove your makeup than it took you to put on.
Pull your hair back
This is such a simple tip but one that many women won’t bother doing or will simply forget. Pulling your hair back into a ponytail exposes your entire face and hairline which is where a lot of makeup builds up. Over time this can cause unsightly blemishes. Now you can ensure you are removing ALL of your makeup from ALL of your face.
Preparation is key
The first step when removing your makeup is to use a pre-cleanser such as a makeup wipe, cleaning oil or even just waster. Basically, it is important to remove your face makeup before you use your facial cleanser to ensure that you are not mixing the day’s makeup with dirt and simply spreading around your face into open pores.
Go easy on the eyes
Eyeliner and mascara can be the hardest makeup to get off but that doesn’t mean you should be scrubbing away at in a harsh fashion! The skin around the eyes is very soft and sensitive and needs looking after. Many people use cotton balls and whilst these can be good they do tend to leave fibres behind so a cotton pad is a better choice with a suitable remover (oil based for waterproof products, dual-phase for all other types). All you need to do is hold the damp pad over your closed eye for about 8-12 seconds to give the remover time to dissolve the makeup and then simply wipe away.
Use the power of steam occasionally
Steam is a great way of helping to remove makeup and is also a great home spa treatment. It’s especially good when you have particularly stubborn makeup to remove. All you need to do is soak a washcloth in very hot water (be very careful). Then, let it cool for a few seconds and then place it on your face. The steam will help lift the makeup off your face and will also help your pores open to ensure you remove all the dirt that has built up too.
