If you’re looking for a quality hair wax, putty or clay then you have a good choice of options available to you. TIGI Bed Head have a great range including their ‘Manipulator Matte’ and ‘Hard to Get Paste’ and Fudge’s ‘Matte Hed’ and their ‘Blow Dry Hair Putty’ always sell well. However, one our customer’s absolute favorite hair products is American Crew ‘Fiber’. This supersize product is always in demand so below we take a look at the product and see just why it’s so good and popular with a wide range of our customers.
How does American Crew Fiber describe itself? “High hold with low shine. Fiber-like, resinous product helps thicken, texturize and increase fullness to hair. Provides a strong, pliable hold with a matte finish. Works well in shorter hair, 1-3 inches in length.”
What we think It’s no surprise that American Crew Fiber is one of our bestsellers. When we tested it we found it to be a very good product. There are many good putties, waxes and clays on the market at the moment and American Crew Fiber helps distinguish itself by being an excellent allrounder.
How well does it hold? Very well. It’s classed as a high hold product and it more than lives up to its claims. The product like most others of its type can leave the hair quite stiff initially but it soon softens giving the hair a nice natural look whilst still remaining a high hold.
How does it smell? Smell is very subjective but we liked it a lot. Many waxes and creams have an ‘artificial’ smell but this one has a very fruity odour. Some people may find such a citrusy smell quite unusual in such a product but we liked it a lot. It’s not too strong and after the initial application it is very faint.
Matte or shiny? American Crew Fiber is a low shine product so it gives a generally matte finish to your hair once it settles in, especially when worked into dry hair. However, if worked into damp hair, it can leave a faint shine which makes it quite a flexible product.
How to use American Crew Fiber? The product is best used if you’re looking for a casual, matte and unstructured look. For that reason, it is best that you apply it to hair that has been washed and dried completely. Then it is just a case of working the product through your hair with your fingers until you get the desired look. Don’t be too concerned if your hair is a touch stiff to begin with, like most similar products, it will gradually soften whilst retaining hold.
Although American Crew Fiber is a low shine product, if you want a little bit of shine in your hair then use as above but use it on slightly damp hair. The product will lock in the moisture and will help give a degree of shine to your hair.
Our overall score: 9/10
American Crew Fiber is an excellent all round product that offers users a quality experience. Whilst there are other types of similar product that we sell that are just as good, the large size of the American Crew Fiber product means that it represents excellent value for money.
