Getting your lips looking right can be tough, but making that lipstick last can be even tougher. Below we take a look at some tips to ensure your lipstick lasts and you look fabulous.
Preparation is key
With all makeup application, good prep is key. It is well known that lipstick will always sit better on lips that are well hydrated, so apply a good layer of balm on your lips and let it sit there for a while before applying your lipstick. If you suffer from flaky lips from time-to-time, then roll a cotton bud along your lips and this will help to gently remove any flaky, dry skin. Once you’ve done this, gently exfoliate your lips to ensure your lips are fully prepared.
Stain
Either using the lipstick you intend to wear or a lip liner that is a similar shade, apply as a base colour all over your lips following your lips natural shape. Then, use a lip brush to really work it into your lips. Take your time doing this and it should give you a really good base from which to apply your lipstick. Once you’ve finished, use a tissue to blot it. If you have done it well, you should find that hardly any of the colour comes off.
Apply in layers
Apply your lipstick in thin layers, working in and blotting after each layer. This gradual build-up will ensure that you get a really good build up of lipstick and is the key to it being long lasting. Yes, it can be a little time-consuming but the results are worth it and you’ll actually save time not having to reapply it later.
Shaping
Once you’ve got your base colour on, it’s time to start tidying up and getting the shape right and generally looking good. If you are like a lot of women and want to give your lips a fuller and more rounded pout, it’s time to get out your lip pencil to even out where necessary. Then, simply use your lip brush (still with a tiny bit of product on) to smooth the edges of your lips and ensure that there are no severe or harsh lines on show.
