New year, new you? Nah. New year, new nails? That’s more like it. A brand new season is nearly upon us and Christmas’ leftover nails just won’t do. If you need to modernise your mani, here are the top trends to aspire to this year.
The Devil is in…
Lazy nail art lovers rejoice, this season’s mani is all about details, details, details. Instead of sitting down for an hour to painstakingly paint perfect nails, all you need to do is add a miniature arty touch to bare nails to bring your talons firmly into 2016. Try a graphic black line on each nail, little half-moons over your cuticles or painterly splashes of white on each tip – this is your chance to get creative!
What you’ll need: black nail polish, white nail polish and a thin brush (if you haven’t got a nail art brush, you can use anything thin from eyelash tint brushes to eyeliner brushes).
Mattestels
Yes, we just made up a word but this gorge new trend totally deserves it. A new and sophisticated take on spring’s classic pastel, this season’s lights and brights should be worn as matte as can be. Candy colours and baby blues won’t cut it either, these pastels should be muted and pale for a much more grown up effect.
What you’ll need: Opt for classy neutral shades and beachy colours like sages, sky blues and sands (we love Nails Inc Chelsea Mews, OPI Infinite Shine Maintaining My Sand-ity and Nails Inc Palace Gardens NailKale) finished off with a matte top coat.
All that Glitters
It’s time to let your inner child out because glitter is back with a bang. We’re not talking full-on glitzy manicures though, this season’s glitter is much more subtle. Try a sweep of clear glitter nail polish over bare nails or just glitter tips for a cute, quick, easy and modern mani.
What you’ll need: You can opt for a classic glitter polish like OPI Desperately Seeking Sequins or something sweet and colourful like Nails Inc’s adorable Chelsea Embankment Gardens Floral Nail Polish.
Heavy Metal
Metallics are always in during winter, when we like to match our nails to our silver and gold Christmas wrapping paper but you may be surprised to hear that they’re still going strong for Spring/Summer 2016 too. Forget winter’s cold metallics and think burnished metals glinting in the sun for the right idea.
What you’ll need: Copper is the colour of the season and suits this trend perfectly. OPI Worth A Pretty Penne and CND Vinylux Sienna Scribble are two of our fave copper polishes on the market.
