Yes, it’s still cold and no, winter’s not ending any time soon. While we count down the days until March 20th (the official beginning of spring, apparently) our poor hair is still doing battle with biting winds, frosty temperatures, and dry-as-a-bone central heating. If your locks are feeling the seasonal strain, here are some top winter hair care tips to keep it going until spring.
The Wash
Hair care begins in the shower so you’ll want to make sure you have a winter-appropriate shampoo and conditioner. Even if you don’t have particularly dry hair, it will need extra moisturising this season so go for a hydrating shampoo and hydrating conditioner. If you do have dry hair, coloured hair, or you’ve just noticed your mane is feeling particularly worn by the winter weather, you can also opt for an intensive repair system to rectify any damage.
The Products
Frizz can be a huge problem in the winter, when dry hair can become crinkly and flyaway. It’s a good idea to grab something like Tigi S Factor’s Silky Smooth Moisture Serum to provide a hydrating and smoothing barrier against the colder weather. Using heated tools will also only exacerbate any ill effects caused by the weather so make sure to invest in a good heat protector spray if you’re going to be using straighteners or curling tongs.
The Styling
Talking of straighteners and curling tongs, you’ll want to choose wisely to avoid further damaging already stressed out hair. Choose a straightener with ceramic plates to help lock in hair’s natural oils (these Hair Tools Thermo Ceramic Hair Straighteners are a good bet) or grab yourself a professional L’Oreal Steam Pod if you’re serious about a smooth, moisture-rich mane.
The Treat
Just as we need a warm bubble bath or a luxurious hot chocolate to warm us up in the winter, our hair needs the occasional treat to keep up its strength against the adverse conditions. Every so often, treat yours to a deep nourishing hair masque for the fastest route to truly winter-proof locks.
