Nothing excites us more than deciding what we’re going to do with our hair for the new season. From photoshoots to the SS16 catwalks, we’ll spend ages poring over what’s hot in the world of hair. And then we’ll come here and share everything we’ve learned with you because we’re nice like that.
Whether you’re looking for a new cut for the new year or just a brand new signature style, here are the buzzwords for 2016 hair:
Natural
Low-maintenance girls can breathe a sigh of relief because natural-looking hair is going to be everywhere this season. This look is all about celebrating your hair’s natural texture and shape so styling products are limited to the likes of finishing sprays and curl amplifiers – essentially anything that enhances your natural look instead of hides it. (Of course if you don’t have a lot of texture in your hair naturally, you can always cheat with a little salt spray or these cool new Head Jog Rollers).
Easy-Going
Coming from the same place as the natural trend, easy-going is the buzzword if you want to wear your hair up or in a certain style but still look unaffected. The key to this fuss-free look is, well, to be fuss-free! Gone are the days of patiently curling your hair before putting it up in a ‘natural’ ponytail. SS16 were full of models wearing easy-to-achieve low buns, schoolgirl ponytails, or scruffy chignons that can literally be thrown up in a matter of seconds. The one cheat we would recommend is spritzing in a little texturising spray before you start as this will help keep your style from become a little too messy as the day goes on.
Decorated
Natural? Low-maintenance?? Scruffy?? If these words are filling you with horror then don’t worry. Pretty, sophisticated hairdos haven’t been completely abandoned this season, they just don’t involve a great deal of product and pampering. Instead, the glamour comes from accessorising. Think gilded hair clips, colourful scarves, and eye-catching headbands – just make sure to stock up on hair grips to keep all those accessories in place.
Braided
Yep, braids have yet to disappear from our catwalks but nope, these aren’t the tousled, romantic, flyaway braids you’re used to from last year. If you prefer a sleeker, more polished look, the 2016 braid is for you. From tightly-bound plaits using your whole mane to thinner versions worn with loose hair as part of a hippie-ish Seventies vibe, the modern braid is sleek and chic. You heard it here first.
