Every January we eagerly pore over the new lipstick shades to rock for the new season… only to panic about which ones will suit our skin tone and end up buying none of them. Well no more shall this be a problem. We here at Just My Look HQ have created a dedicated guide to the hottest new lipstick shades for 2016 and exactly who can wear them.
Hippie Hippie Shake
Last year’s seventies trend is still going strong and the sixties are always in fashion so it’s not surprising that hippie-style nude lips made many an appearance on the Spring/Summer ‘16 catwalks. Luckily ‘nude’ is a pretty huge umbrella term when it comes to lipsticks. The term is often used to mean beige or light pink but we reckon nude should mean natural – an enhancement of your own natural lip colour. Defining ‘nude’ as ‘beige’ ignores a whole range of beautiful darker skin tones! In that case, this pretty and easy-going trend can be worn by everyone. Ladies with lighter skin tones can opt for frosty baby pinks and very light beiges – like Technic Lipstick with Vitamin E in Pink Lady or Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colour in Bare – while medium-skinned misses should look to warmer-toned peachy shades like Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colour in Iced or Technic Lipstick with Vitamin E in Cashmere Rose. Darker-skinned ladies can pull off anything from dusky pinks like Maxfactor’s Lipfinity in Ethereal to warm and rich coffee-coloured tones like Max Factor’s Lipfinity in Confident.
The Apple of your Eye
Scarlett ladies rejoice because luscious reds are back in a big way next season. Rather than the bright tangerines or pillarbox reds of yesteryear, 2016 is all about pure, deep apple-coloured reds that are perfectly romantic for Spring. Technic have an amazing range of these reds to suit all skin tones; the very fair-skinned might find warmer shades wash you out, so opt for a red with blue undertones like Heartbeat. Medium to olive-skinned ladies can pull off warmer and richer shades like Tropics while dark-skinned gals should opt for deep, fiery reds like Indian Red.
Metal Head
Big fan of bold lips? Then you’ll love the new season’s trend for all things metallic. A partner in crime with Spring/Summer’s bronzed beach goddess look, metallic lips can be worn in any shade from deep coppers for dark skin to bright golds for pale skin. Pair with a shimmery base and plenty of highlighter for a futuristic summer vibe.
