After the vitamin D-packed sunshine and moisturising suncreams of summer, wintry weather can come as a bit of a shock to our nails. Sudden cold temperatures, harsh conditions, and drying central heating wreak havoc on nails, skin, and cuticles so it’s important to make sure your paws are protected in advance.
Soft Touch
First things first, you’re going to need to keep your hands hydrated. Cold weather and hot central heating will both dry out your skin, potentially leaving hands cracked and sore. And if your skin is suffering, your nails will too. Step up your moisturising regime with a specialised cream like OPI’s Avoplex High Intensity Hand & Nail Cream. Keeping nails hydrated will also help them to become less prone to breakages.
Get Your Coat
You wouldn’t head out into a cold winter’s day without a coat so why should your nails? Give them an extra layer of protection by popping on some strengthening base coat to keep them strong. Wear it under your favourite polish or by itself for a more naturally polished look.
Cutie-cles
If you’ve noticed that you’re prone to sore and peeling skin around your nails during winter, it could be that you need to pay more attention to your cuticle care. As well as your daily moisturiser, treat your nails to a drop of cuticle oil or cuticle cream to keep skin soft and protected. Top tip: apply your cuticle oil before bed and pop on a pair of gloves for an intensive overnight treatment.
Lacquer that Loves You
Protective nail care is no longer limited to base coats, you know. More and more brands are starting to blend their protective nail treatments with their most popular colours and no one does it better than nail giants OPI. Their Nail Envy range is now available in a variety of on-trend colours like the beautifully nude Samoan Sand. Chic and strengthening? We’ll take two, please.
