We have a confession to make; we love autumn. Yes, there is an increased chance of rain and, yes, it might be time to say goodbye to the sun but we just can’t get enough of chunky jumpers, biker boots, bright red leaves and pumpkin-spiced lattes. It’s not just comfy clothes and cosy coffees that make us love autumn either, this season is the best when it comes to health and beauty too. Read on to become an autumn-loving convert…
‘Tis the season… to be healthy
While summer is sugar-loaded cocktails in beer gardens and winter is carb-heavy comfort foods, autumn is all about veg, veg, and more veg. And fruit too, for that matter. It is harvest season after all. Sprouts, apples, beetroot, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and squash are all in abundance this season and all are rich in fibre and vitamin C that’ll help stave off winter colds. Carving a pumpkin this Halloween? Don’t chuck away the insides. Pumpkin is packed with vitamin A (which is good for white blood cells) and pumpkin seeds make for a great healthy snack packed with natural fats and oils that’ll replenish your skin and help strengthen hair and nails against colder temperatures.
‘Tis the season… to have beautiful hair once more
Three words: No More Humidity. For once we can sweep our straighteners over our locks and not be greeted by a face-full of frizz as soon as we step outside. Plus we get to use loads of lush moisturising hair masques to protect our locks from harsh weather.
‘Tis the season… to get active
Though we might hit the beach more often in summer, sweltering temperatures mean we only doze off when we get there. In contrast, autumn is the perfect season for hobbies and activities – whether that’s a brisk jog on a crisp autumn morning or a long cycling trip on a sunny autumn afternoon.
‘Tis the season… to wear makeup
We love summer’s hippie ‘no makeup’ vibes but, on days when makeup is required, hot temperatures can leave us looking a sweaty mess – not to mention the dreaded effect of foundation on open pores and sunburn on our poor, tender complexions. Autumn means a return of cool temperatures, which means we get to go back to experimenting with our favourite new season looks. Smoky eyes, flushed cheeks and berry lips? Yes please.
‘Tis the season… to fake it, not bake it
During summer the temptation to go for a natural tan can be overwhelming, especially if you’re on a hot beach holiday. While we might get some lovely sunny days in autumn too, it’s probably too cold to sunbathe so everyone can happily go back to using fake tan instead. It’s better for our skin and our health, what’s not to love?
