Yes we may be saying goodbye to the sun but we can’t help but look forward to saying hello to a whole new bunch of nail trends for the new season. From barely-there ballerina-inspired nails to glossy gothic lacquers, these are the nail trends getting us excited for AW15.
On Pointe
As pretty pink blushers and lilac eyelids take over the makeup trends this year, the ballerina theme is extending gracefully down to our nails too. Whether you prefer a natural nail topped only with a glossy or matte coat, or a pretty pink, taupe, or nude polish, this is a classic understated nail that’s perfect for sophisticated daily wear. Try: OPI’s Samoan Sand Nail Envy for the perfect blend of nude and pink tones.
Atten-TION!
As the colder months come around we always expect nail trends to take on a more gothic air but this season’s dark colour had a decidedly camouflaged tone. Think forest greens, blacks, chocolate browns, and khaki to nail this military look. Try: OPI Nail Lacquer in Visions of Georgia Green for an army-inspired shade. Make sure to finish off with a high-gloss top coat like Gellux’s Shiny Top Coat to keep the look feminine.
Minimal-miss
Have you noticed a trend for barely-there makeup (or ‘no makeup makeup’ as the pros call it?) Well apply this trend to your nails too because AW15 is all about minimalism. Don’t panic yet though, nail art fans. Nail art is still going strong, it’s just a little more understated and grown-up than we’ve seen in previous seasons. Try: Applying a matte top coat to your bare nails then finishing each nail off with one rhinestone
Short ‘n’ Sweet
Whichever of these styles is your favourite, there was one overriding trend for all nails this season and that was to keep them short, short, short. Perfect both for AW15’s minimal and natural themes as well as for gothic and grungy darker shades, a short nail is classic, unfussy and, best of all, easy to maintain. Sorry all you talon-ted ladies, it’s time to grab the nail scissors and files…
