Whether you’re a bearded wonder, a beard-grower, or just a lover of a fuzzy face, September 5th is your day to celebrate all things beardy. Long, short, black, white, grey, red, or blonde, all beards deserve our undivided love and attention so we’ve put together this guide to taking care of your furry friend.
Looking Trim
Of course the first step towards a perfect bead is making sure you keep it neat and tidy (although if you prefer a wild and rambling face fleece, we salute you too!). First things first you’ll need a wide-toothed comb so you can brush out your beard and make sure you’re trimming it straight. You can go in with scissors if you like but we think it’s a bit daunting so we recommend a nifty grooming set like this Wahl Lithium Ion Trimmer Grooming Kit instead.
A Close Shave
Even if your beard is trimmed to perfection, you might find you still need to shave around your neckline for a truly dapper look. If you are going to do this, grab a specialised shaving lotion like this Gummy Fonex shaving gel; it contains a special beard softener to take all the pain out of getting rid of unwanted hair. Finish off with a cooling post-shave lotion to avoid the dreaded red neck rash.
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
You may be aware that washing your beard is a good idea (we hope you’re aware that washing your beard is a good idea…) but, if you’re just using soap and water, there’s a good chance you’re doing untold damage to your skin. Plain soap will dry out both your beard and the skin around it so your best bet is to use a moisturising shampoo like this Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Shampoo, a sumptuous blend of natural oils that will nourish your beard and your face at the same time. It might be a good idea to use a moisturising conditioner too, to make sure your beard stays soft and not scratchy.
Smooth Operator
Last but not least, you’ll need to protect your beard just as you would the hair on your head. A good beard oil will moisturise and protect the hair as well as keeping it as smooth and as tameable as a gent’s face fuzz should be.
Nice, def need to look at getting some more beard oil
