Apart from weddings and festivals, summer holidays are one of the only times we can really let our creativity loose when it comes to makeup. From shimmery gold highlighters to bold bright eyeshadows, your summer vacation is the perfect place to try out these pretty makeup ideas.
By Day
This season, daytime makeup looks are all about flawless skin, pretty features and a dewy glow. You’ll want to avoid heavy or cakey foundation; it won’t give you the right look and it won’t do your skin any favours under hot sunlight. Opt instead for something light and non-comedogenic (i.e. that won’t block your pores in the heat) like Max Factor’s Lasting Performance Foundation. This fresh and long-lasting formula is perfect for a day out in the sun and won’t melt in the heat. Finish off with a touch of highlighter for a bright and natural-looking complexion.
For the rest of your face, pared-back is the key phrase to remember. Rather than bright lipsticks, opt for a subtle lip tint to bring out the natural colour of your pout. Avoid too much heavy eye makeup too; a clear mascara is all you need to define those peepers.
On the Beach
Wearing complexion makeup isn’t a great idea when you’re sunbathing but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few little tricks you can use to perk up your beachtime beauty. For example, a sweep of mascara can be all you need to take your beach look from glum to glam; remember to make sure it’s a waterproof mascara though, beaches are no place for pandas. The one thing that will really boost your confidence on the beach however, is a good tan. If you haven’t yet got one, swap bronzer or foundation for some fake tan to become an instant golden goddess.
By Night
Danny and Sandy didn’t sing about those summer nights for nothing. When the sun goes down it’s your chance to go as wild as you dare with your makeup look. Take your queue from the Kardashians and use your bronzing powder to try out a contoured look (it’s not as scary when you already have a tan!). Now is also the time to try any bold colours you normally wouldn’t wear at home, from hot pink lipsticks to blue or green eyeshadows. Just remember not to wear both at once or you can risk looking a little more Coco the Clown than Coco Chanel.
