Loud, flashy and always deliciously shocking, the VMAs are one of our favourite events of the year. Even if you don’t love some of the — shall we say — ‘more questionable’ outfit choices, you can’t deny that these raucous awards bring out the best in bold beauty. Here’s a rundown of our favourite looks and how to recreate them at home.
Miley
We couldn’t write about the VMAs without talking about this year’s daredevil host, Miss Cyrus herself. From her barely-there outfits to her on-stage antics, Miley lit up this year’s awards with both her personality and her beautifully bold makeup. To get her look, line the inner corners of your eyes with a bright blue eyeshadow and offset it with a vivid orange or peachy lip colour like Max Factor’s Lip Finity Lip Tint in Coral Crush.
Taylor
Favouring a striking sixties-inspired look over lurid colours, Taytay opted for a bold winged smoky eye and a classy nude lip. FKA Twigs
One of our favourite looks from the night, FKA Twig’s modern take on retro beauty was a winner in our eyes. The singer opted for a brave, bare-faced dewy base that perfectly complemented her bold red lips and sultry eyes; we love Max Factor’s glow-making Pan Stik Foundation for its blemish-concealing coverage and lustrous finish. As to be expected at an awards ceremony for music videos, there were lots of beachy goddesses rocking the bronzed look on the red carpet but no one did it better than Gigi Hadid.
