If you’re anything like us, your dressing table usually looks like a particularly beauty-savvy bomb just hit it. But while it’s tempting to have your entire collection of cosmetics on display for all your friends to coo over, a cluttered dressing table is just so passe.
If you’ve come to the realisation that it might be time to tidy up your dressing table, follow these simple rules to declutter in style.
Streamline your beauty products
Yes there may come a day when you want to don that bright orange lipstick once more but do you really need to keep that foundation that’s stuck to the inside of the bottle? Keeping old makeup is one of the most common beauty sins around but it can be harmful to your health as well as your feng shui. Lay out all of your cosmetics and be brutal when deciding what can stay; you’ll be amazed at how quickly your dressing table starts to clear.
Know your face
That pillarbox red lipstick looks amazing on models in magazines but it might not always suit you (see also pink eyeshadow, blue eyeliner and glittery lipstick). If you’ve impulse purchased a dubious makeup item that you know deep down doesn’t really suit you, get rid.
Brush up your brushes
Over the years we can pick up all manner of brushes from big fluffy powder ones to little bitty eyeliner ones. Unfortunately, not only does a collection of random old brushes make your dressing table look untidy, it can also be damaging to your skin if your brushes are dirty or past their sell by date. For the ultimate dressing table makeover, purchase a set of matching makeup brushes. This will help you streamline your collection and make sure you have one of everything you need, as well as making your dressing table look instantly smarter.
Sort out your display
Yes your collection of bronzers is very impressive but no it does not need to be on display at all times. Try to only leave out the cosmetics that you use on a daily basis (foundations, concealers etc.) and keep the fancy stuff tucked away in organised drawers. That way, the products you use more often will be on hand for your daily beauty routine and you’ll know where to find your favourite bold lipstick when you need it.
