Summer is round the corner and the weather is hotting up! But while you beach goddesses and tan fans rejoice, it’s always important to remember to stay safe in the sun. That’s why we’re celebrating Sun Screen Day on the 27th of May.
Designed to celebrate all things sun protection and to raise awareness of the dangers of unprotected tanning, Sun Screen Day comes right at the start of summer and is the perfect day to head out and stock up on suntan lotion.
In conjunction with this great day, here are our top tips for staying safe in the sun.
1) Always wear sunscreen – This might seem like an obvious tip considering the fact that the day is called Sun Screen Day but wearing sunscreen for one day – or even one season – just won’t cut it. New research shows that UV rays are harmful all year round and that we should actually wear sun cream all the time, whether it’s summer or not. If that sounds like a bit of a hassle, you can always opt for beauty products that contain SPF protection such as the Max Factor Facefinity 3-in-1 SPF 20 foundation.
2) Don’t make like mad dogs and Englishmen… – …and go out in the midday sun. The hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. are when the sun’s rays are strongest and UV damage is most likely. Take cover in the shade during these hours to make sure you’re protected.
3) Speed up the process – If you love a natural tan but are worried about the risks involved in sunbathing for hours on end, you could always speed up the process with a tanning accelerator. Designed to help you tan faster, accelerators mean less time exposed to harmful rays. Be sure to use them with a suitable suntan lotion though!
4) Stay out of the sun altogether – A gorgeous natural-looking tan doesn’t always have to come from the sun. After all, the safest way to tan comes in a bottle! Investing in an excellent fake tan means you can achieve that golden glow without exposing your skin to any dangerous UV rays, as well as being a surefire way to avoid the dreaded sunburn. Sounds like a winner to us.
