It’s every girl’s worst nightmare; The Bad Hair Day. Lank, thin and dull-looking locks are a pain to style and can leave you feeling down, but how do you turn a melancholy mane into a beautiful barnet? It’s easy! Simple – follow our five tips to fuller and healthier hair.
Feed
Sometimes the health of your hair can depend just as much on what you put into it as what you put onto it. Your hair and scalp need three things to stay healthy: protein to strengthen hair, zinc to stop shedding and Omega 3 fatty acids to nourish the scalp and stimulate hair follicles. Eat a diet rich in lean meat, chicken, eggs, nuts and leafy green vegetables to make sure your body is topped up with all these hair-loving ingredients.
Wash
Lots of people who have problem hair might find that it’s because they aren’t washing it properly. The main culprit is shampoo, or rather over-shampooing. Washing your hair too often will strip it of moisture, leaving it dry, brittle and prone to breaking. Make sure you know your hair type and only wash as often as you need to. Don’t forget a good condition either! Pick a conditioner suited to your hair type (even oily-skinned ladies need to follow this step) and comb it through with a wide-tooth comb. Leave it to soak in for a few minutes then wash it out with cool water for instantly fresh and bouncy hair.
Protect
When it comes to drying, it’s all about damage control. Don’t rub your hair with a towel and don’t brush it while wet as this is when hair is extra vulnerable to breaking. It’s also important to protect your hair, both from any heated tools you might be using and from harsh weather conditions like frosty temperatures or humidity. A good heat-protecting spray should de-frizz and smooth your hair while shielding it from damage..
Style
The way you style your hair goes a long way to making it look full and healthy. Opt for volumising spray over hairsprays that can weigh you down. Big, bouncy curls also make locks look super healthy so stock up on rollers or kind-to-hair ceramic curling tongs.
Treat
If your hair is feeling thin, damaged or flat, don’t forget to treat it every once in a while. There are plenty of hair thinning and hair loss products designed to thicken hair while treating yourself to the occasional rejuvenating hair mask can work wonders. For a real treat, try giving yourself a head massage with Argan oil or Macadamia oil. After the massage, wrap your head in a warm, damp towel and you should emerge with thick, shiny and — most importantly — ultra healthy-looking hair.
